Vincent Butler was an established British sculptor working with the human form. He produced hundreds of statues, mainly figures in bronze, over many decades. He also on occasion created sculptures of still lifes, animals, and relief panels in bronze, terracotta, alabaster or wood. His free yet skillfully observed modelling style has been compared to Jacob Epstein and even to Giambologna, by critics in his many exhibitions throughout Scotland and England.
Vincent was elected as a full academician of both the Royal Scottish Academy and also of the Royal Glasgow Institute
His works are in public spaces in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and are also in the collections across the world including in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and in the British Royal Collection.
